Former President Donald Trump appears to have surged ahead of President Joe Biden with a critical constituency in battleground Wisconsin, according to a recent poll.
In an AARP survey of Wisconsin voters aged 50 or older, Trump earned the support of 52% of respondents, compared to 43% who expressed support for Biden. Among all age groups, Trump led by 5%.
When independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. entered the mix, however, he grabbed 7% of voters aged 50 or older, reducing Trump’s support to 48% and Biden’s to 41%.
Conducted June 28-July 2, the survey questioned 1,052 likely Wisconsin voters. The bipartisan Fabrizio Ward and Impact Research team conducted the poll.
In a five-way race between Trump, Biden, Kennedy, independent candidate Cornel West, and the Green Party’s Jill Stein, Trump currently leads by 2.2% in the RealClearPolitics polling average for Wisconsin, which includes the AARP survey.
Wisconsin is a critical state in the electoral college and boasts 10 electoral votes, which could prove decisive in the event of a close race. Trump won Wisconsin in 2016 against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, but lost it to Biden in 2020.
